Product Videos for Social: Reframing E-commerce Footage for Vertical Ads and Reels

Product shoots are usually filmed for the website. Here is how to get vertical ads and Reels from the same footage without a reshoot.

Quick answer: shoot product footage wide with space around the product, then reframe vertical versions for Reels, TikTok and Stories ads. Keep the product large in the frame, follow it through motion and leave space at the top and bottom for text and calls to action.

Brands often need the same product in 16:9 for the website, 4:5 for the feed and 9:16 for Stories. A reshoot for each is expensive. Reframing is not.

Product first, always

In vertical, the product should occupy a large share of the frame. Background environment adds mood, but the viewer must instantly understand what is being sold.

Framing motion shots

Splashes, spins and drops: slow the playback while you reframe, and keep the product in the center of the frame through the action.

Hero reveals: start slightly wide and move in as the product settles. That small push feels premium.

Hands and usage: when someone uses the product, include their hands and the product together.

Plan space for text

Vertical ads usually carry a headline, a price or an offer and a button. Leave clean space at the top for text and keep the bottom clear of the platform's call-to-action area. Our guide to safe zones shows which parts of the screen to avoid.

Shooting checklist for brands

Shoot wide and in 4K so vertical crops stay sharp.

Center the product with room on every side.

Use a plain or simple background that still works when cropped.

Capture several takes of each motion for choice in the reframe.
