The first second is a framing problem
On a phone, the viewer sees your opening frame at full screen and decides almost instantly. If the subject is tiny, off to one side or half outside the frame, the clip reads as unfinished. If the subject fills the frame with intent, it reads as made for them.
Four framing habits that help
Fill the frame. Vertical favors people and objects shown large. A skater who occupies most of the height feels dynamic. The same skater at a quarter of the height feels distant.
Give movement room. Leave space in front of the subject in the direction they are moving. The viewer's eye goes there next.
Avoid dead air. Large areas of empty sky or floor push the subject to the edges where captions and buttons live.
Keep the peak moment centered. The trick, the goal, the punchline: make sure it happens in the clearest part of the frame, not at the edge.
